Im working on someones laptop which was infected by some spyware.
One of those that redirects internet pages, doesnt allow any programs to run etc.
    Renamed it and removed it.

Still couldnt update ANY programs but the internet was still being redirected.
Got the manual update of MalwareBytes and Super Antispyware and scanned machine.
Also got manual update of Microsoft Security Esssentials.

Ran them on full scan and found about 8 more trojans.
Still couldnt update any security programs or use Windows update, but the Internet doesnt seem to redirect anymore.
Had a look at host files but they seemed fine.
Tried disabling Windows Firewall, then tried installing Comodo firewall. That didnt work so unistalled it and re-enabled Windows Firewall.

Had a look at the LAN adapter and didnt see anything funny.
In the end, was a proxy server being set, not sure if the virus did it, looks very complicated as it was system set, as IE was not using a proxy it was bypassing this proxy, which explains why the internet worked but not any other program on the machine.
Have to install AVG9 back on the laptop now as i thought that could of been it:mad:

I will now update all anti-malware/spyware suites and run full scans again just to make sure its all fine.
But 651MB worth of Windows Updates to download on my monthly limited bandwidth:eek:

The link i used to resolve this issue
    Connection issues relating to Updates
    The command used in CMD:

    netsh winhttp show proxy

    netsh winhttp reset proxy

Will solve this thread if i believe the system is clean.
