    Hi,

I can't use email clients and am not sure why. When I try to use outlook express (or similar) I get the error 'An unknown TCP/IP error occurred. Account: '[email protected]', Server: 'smtp.googlemail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC40'. I've checked all the isp settings and tried a different email account as well.

I tried changing the tcp/ip settings in regedit but that didnt work so undid it.

I'm on windows xp, broadband through a router, and am not really sure what to do next, any advice would be appereciated.

    Thanks!

Hi yes I tried doing that and doing it manually, no effect. I also tried enabling the tcp/ip in regedit but that didnt work either, so undid that.

Unless there is another Gmail client out there, your server setting is wrong.

The link I posted has smtp.gmail.com as the server, as well as requiring an encrypted connection.

I would suggest deleting the account and starting fresh.
