Cd burner not working

I have windows xp home and my cd burner is not working.
Its been like for for a couple of days now. I went into device mgr and it said that it was working prop. I also went and did a driver update but it has the newest drivers. But when i try to run a disk or burn one it say to insert disk... What should i try??????

 

I'd start by making sure that the cables are seated properly. You could also delete it from device manager, reboot and let it be discovered again, that sometimes sets them straight.

 

thanks for the reply i will try to uninstall it and see what happens but i cant open the case to see about the cable... They really dont like they when you have a 3 year war. on it . but thanks again and i post if it is workin
