Have you tried removing the drive from device manager and rebooting the computer to see if the drivers re-install properly?

I had the same problem with a CD-ROM drive and just had to replace it. But first, you should be sure that the connections are secure on the back of it. Also, that means on both ends of the cables! If you have (or can borrow?) another drive, then just swap it out. If the known, good drive works fine, then you know your drive is bad. Suck it up, and go buy a new one. This is your chance to upgrade to something better, like DVD-RW (Double-Layer?!). Good luck with it, J. Rish
