Hello,
Recently when I want to use my cd-rom I face problems which are as follows:
The cd or dvd won't play and I have to take it out several times and replace it inside it so that by some chance it may finally work and this chance is pretty low( today I could only play 2 dvds) so I started to diagnose it I listened to the noise it was making and it seems that the motor can not keep rotating the disk for long enough( the noise is unstable) so I searched the net and did the following things to troublshoot:
1-I boot it at safe mode and tested if it was some driver or software problem
2- uninstall and install the driver
3-check the dvds
4- cleaned the lense surface with alcohol
But none of the above worked for me and it seems that my lap top can not recognise the disk although it is making some noises
Would be glad to hear any new ways to solve my problem
Thanks everyone

You didn't describe your laptop or say how old it is.

Are the discs working okay in another computer?

It's possible your laptop's disc drive is failing and needs to be replaced.

Well it's and old Dell laptop from lattitude series. And about the disks I havent tested them in another computer but even the ones which it had played wont play right now. Is repairing the drive possible?
Thanks for your answer anyways

A disc drive usually can't be repaired.
It usually needs to be replaced.

I would put in a new CD/DVD unit and see what happens,

Good Luck

Post the full model name or the service tag of that Dell laptop please, then we can tell you what type of drive you need if you replace the CD/DVD drive. You can get a used drive very cheaply on Ebay.
