Sony PCG-FR130 notebook. Any attempts to eject other than manual using paperclip fails with annoying high pitched beep. No disk in drive and regardless of program.

I've tried reinstalling driver. Any other thoughts to repair?

Sounds like you have a cable fault, and your mobo is telling you with the beep. Probably a short. Replace the IDE cable from mobo to drive, see if that helps.

Thanks all. I'll give the ideas a try and report back. Might be a little bit on the cable.
