Satellite Pro A200 running Vista Home Premium. The CD/DVD drive does not recognise a lot of old discs written from an XP installation or old XP installation discs. There is no error message, nothing at all, right clicking the drive & looking at properties shows an empty disc. I have just downloaded an ISO file (GParted CD live). I burnt it to a CD & everything worked fine but when I tried to run it - nothing. Is this a Vista issue or is the drive faulty?

If it reads some disks and not others, it is most probably a quirk of the CD-ROM itself. It could need a commercial cleaner, but it may just be poorly designed or faulty.

Can it read other disks and is there any special type that work or don't?
