I am using Windows98 and after re-installing the system the CDROM is no longer recognized: why is this happening?

I assume you formatted the hard drive while installing. In that case, did you reinstall all the motherboard drivers? If not, chances are a lot of things wont work correctly.

Is the CD connected correctly? Does it have power? Reseat all the connections for it and try again.

goto your device mgr ,make sure cdrom has a + in front of it. if it does double click on the cdrom to open it- right click on the drive thats not working - click remove and restart your computer. this will let windows hardware wizard reinstall the drive. i had this problem over a year ago.
