cd-rom and dvd drive

    is there a differance in drives i have a cd-rom 40x will it play dvds or not

    No, DvD's are not the same as Cd's so a DvD would not play in a CD drive. If you could play a DvD in a Cd drive what would be the need for anyone to ever buy a DvD drive?

    No. There are combination drives that will read and burn both, but a straight CD-ROM won't play DVD's.
