After finally cleaning up the the mess from an adopted computer, I'm now down to 3 problems:

    1) My Sony PCV 70/90, running Windows 95, suddenly stopped reading my CD-Rom drive (Atapi 31a). Connection/motor is fine. All settings appear to be ok. Tried rebooting w/o luck. Device manager indicates everything is fine.

    2) Still can't access internet via Explorer. (Trying to re-install AOL, but can't do it until problem #1 is solved.)

    3) Haven't won the lottery yet.

Any answers or $$$ is appreciated.:D

    hey
i had that same kind of problem just a few days ago. I had a 40X cdrom and all of a sudden it just stopped responding. It still was listed ok in the device manager and the motor was still ok. I took the cdrom out of the case opened it up and made sure the tray was working correctly, it opened and closed fine but i found out that the lens was really dusty, dont ask me why but by cleaning that with a dry cloth I fixed the problem completelyIf you have any more questions email me

You can’t uninstall Win95. You have to format the HD which removes everything. You can install Win95 over itself but it usually doesn’t help with problems unless you are missing a file.

Try going to device manager and removing the CD-ROM. Reboot and Windows will reinstall it.

Been there, done that. I already formatted my HD, and tried reinstalling Win95. But because the software was on CD-Rom, naturally there is no valid drive to download it from. I finally had a tech come out & verified that my drive is dead. So guess what I'm asking Santa for Christmas???

    Thanx for the 411, guys.
