cd rom drive not detecting...somebody please help

    hey everyone...
    just now...i put in a cd and i noticed that my cd rom drive wasnt working....i went to my computer..then my cdrom drive...n it said please insert a disk.....i then put the same cd into my burner drive..n it opened the cd rom...but none of the files were displayed.....
    can somebody please help?
    because i just installed win xp...n i hav backups on the cd roms...

    So I understand this corectly, you haven't changed any hardware, and all you did was install XP and you have files BURNED on CD's that now can not be read? What burning software do you have?

    Have you tried reading a different cd?

    at that time when it wasnt working i put in other cds that i know worked for sure...and it didnt detect it...but then i restarted it and it hasnt happened (YET)...but what im worried about right now is that on my cd rw i had a lot of important docs and backups...these are very important to me...and i want to know why i cant extract the files or view them...i used NERO....
