I have an old Dell Inspiron 4150. My CD-Drive hardware failed to stop working, and would like to wonder whether repair or buying a new one would be more efficient?

Well... on the computer it is not considered to even be put in.. it's not in the "Safely Remove Hardware" list.. well it is for a few moments when I put it in but other than that it doens't. Also, when I press the button for it to pop out, so I could insert a CD, it doesn't pop out. Just whirrs

If you go into Device Manager is the drive listed there? If it is does it say that it is working?

You might need a new drive. Do you have a Boot CD? If so set the laptop to boot from the CD drive, put the Boot CD in and see if you can boot from it. This helps to rule out that you don't have some sort of software problem.
