Win2000 has stopped recognizing my cd drive. It does not appear in the hardware listing, so I can not fix, remove, or reinstall it. I have not recently installed any new hardware or software. It just suddenly stopped working. The front light works, the drawer opens/closes, a disk will spin, but the PC does not see it. Drive is a two-year old Samsung (don't know the model). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I sow this problem on compaq computers and I'm sorry to tell you it was a virus. I can remember the name of the virus.

Full reinstallation was neccesery. Don't use the recovery CD's. only a full "quick restore" helps. for most models you can order for free this cd Rom's.

For other computers full reinstallation with --> fdisk ....
