Since I installed Windows ME, I cannot my CD Racer will not write, it says it is writing the disk is blank and in Adaptec CD creator, it will not recognize it as a write drive and does not display the write test.

Hi – welcome to the board.

Go here and download the ASPI check program: http://www.cyrus.troy.btinternet.co.uk/downloads.htm

If it flunks download the Force ASPI and go here for instructions on using it: http://www.flexion.org/aspi/

If you haven’t done it go here and get the update for your EZCD if it is version 4 or above: http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/ecdcupdates.jhtml Version 3.5 is no longer being supported.

Smart and Friendly is out of business. Don’t know whether their last firmware supported ME. The latest I can find is for Win95/98: http://www.verbatim.com.au/techsupport/firmware.html
Nero has the same firmware version for it so that is the latest.

Read the Read-Me file before you do it. If you are sticking with ME you really don’t have anything to lose. You might check first in device manager to make sure you don’t already have firmware 2.06.

You might be SOL using that burner in ME. There might be no firmware to support ME and if you have EZCD v3.5 it isn’t being upgraded either.

    Hi Shadowridge

Slipe is correct, Smart and Friendly is out of business and I was unable to find any support for ME.

BTW Smart and Friendly was my first (and second) CD writer. The first one died after the first month. I got a free replacement but it also gave up the ghost after 5 months. I tried to get a refund but the company had already folded. Small wonder. I now own a TDK 16/10/40 and have never had a problem.

    Good Luck
    John
