Wierdest thing has happened. I am attempting to get my new external DVD burner to work and my old cd drives will not see the installation CD. So I tried viewing some other CD's and some work and some don't in both my other 2 drives. I have never had this problem before. The installation cd works fine on my laptop.
When I go into "My Computer" and click on the drive where I put a CD in, which right now is Microsoft Plus, the icon changes from "CD/RW" to CD Drive. It sees for a minute that there is something there but when I go to open it, there is nothing there. My other drive is the same.
Yet I put a CD of some of my back ups in that drive and it opened right away. A movie played on my DVD drive but again that drive will not see much else.
I have tried looking for updated drivers and none were found. My device manager says these drives are working properly.
My OS is Windows XP Professional. I have 1 gb of ram. I have just had trouble since I tried to install the installation CD. Is it at all possible that a virus could do this ?

Try uninstalling the drives in Device Manager and rebooting.

Okay. I was away for the weekend. Okay, you mean the Drivers for the cd/rw and DVD Rom right?? Then what? Why would this problem just start now?

That's the first step to see if it resolves the issue. This fixes many issues with CD's, but obviously not all of them. Give it a try, it only takes 5 minutes. :)
