I have an old computer at work that only has usb 1.1 and I'm looking to install a cd/rw burner. Are there external cd burners that connect to usb 1.1?

My other question is, are there external cd burners that hook up to serial ports?

Or is a serial port the same thing as usb 1.1 (in terms of speed)?

oh my god no :p

serial is much much much slower than usb 1.1
( dont get serial )

You can get USB 1 external CD burners but .... 99.9% of USB 2 devices work on USB 1. they will normally say in the specification of the device Interface: USB v2.0/1.1 . Running usb 2 on usb 1 just means that the device will run at the speed of usb 1 rather than usb 2 :) ( which is faster than serial )
Hope that helps

You can burn at a maximum of 4x on a CD-R/RW drive on USB 1.1. I've done it, but it's somewhat painful.

You can pick up a USB 2.0 PCI card for around $15, I think that's the way to go...
