I have a P4 system with 512mb RAM, CD-ROM and DVD-RW drives, 2 sound cards and onboard sound. The sound cards work just fine (I use them for audio recording and mixing); both the CD and DVD drives do what they should for all kinds of data, including recording audio CD's, which will play fine on my home stereo and in my car.
The problem is that any audio CD, played on either drive through my PC's sound system, sounds terrible. The sound is badly distorted, as if it were being regularly interrupted by another signal. Audio from other sources (e.g. Mp3 or wav files from my hard drive) plays absolutely fine.
I believe I have Windows set up correctly for the cards and the drives, but would welcome any advice on how I could eliminate this problem, and what things to check.
