I have a samsung CD writer and the other day I tried to burn music on a rewritable CD ROM (TDK) but I always get the message that the CD rom is protected against writing. I use the software Roxio Platinum v 5.
Plain CD rom´s (non rewritable) I can burn.

Is there something I have to do whit the CD rom´s before use?

Not sure on the origin of the message, but writing music to play in a stereo using a CD-RW is not always a good idea. Very few stereos can play them, even fewer can play them reliably.

Don't use them myself, but you used to have to format them before use. I know that you have to format them before re-use

You can’t burn music on a formatted RW. If you format it you are using packet writing software like DirectCD or InCD. You format them only once. If you don’t format you write on it like a regular CDR with mastering software like Nero or EZCD. You can’t erase individual items with mastering software but have to erase the entire RW and start over if you want to use it again.

If you are writing with EZCD you can try erasing the CD. It is somewhere in the tools on the file menu.

I agree with kiwiguy that they are iffy for entertainment players, but if you are recording to play on your computer they should be OK. I have no idea why you would be getting that message with a new RW as long as it hasn’t already been recorded on or formatted.
