    Hello to all,

This is my first post so heres my problem. I have recently installed a BenQ 48X 16X 48X burner. I also have a 16X burner that I have left in my computer. I have WINXP Pro installed on my P2 450Mghz computer.

The problem I am having is that for the first couple of CDR's it burned the full CD at 48X under 3 minutes. The media was a 48X CD. Then it started to only burn at 16X only at over 5 minutes to 7 mins. I can't even drag and drop through WIN XP explorer to burn files , like before. My 16X burner burns slightly slower (12X) than before.

I have Nero as the burning software. I tried to install Easy Cd Creator 5.0 but it would not load after installation, so I removed it.

So far I have uninstalled the hardware through device manager. Also physically removed the CDR Burner and rebooted. It does the same thing.

My question is how can I fix it so it writes at the fastest speed of 48X at under 3minutes again and how do you activate the explorer drag and drop in WIN XP so I can burn files? It says E: is not accessible incorrect function. I do have a blank CD in there.

Just out of curiosity, Why would you have a 16x burner when you have a much faster one at 48x on the same system?? I'm guessing that is the source of your problem here. If you insist on keeping them both installed on the same PC, try disableing the dormant one (via the device manager) just before you burn a CD and perhaps that will solve it.

Tushman, Unless I misunderstood, you will not be able to drag and drop to a CDR only a formatted CDRW.

You can drop and burn to a CD-R in XP using XP's built in burn software which is made by Roxio. I do it all the time. As for burning speeds in Nero, that depends on the data being burnt. Nero will turn down the speed as it sees fit. Roxio's makes Easy CD and it doesn't like XP very well. It's supposed to be XP compliant but I think it still has problems. Nero and Easy CD do not get along well with each other. You should load one or the other but not both. Also, having 2 burners is asking for trouble. Remove the older slower burner and replace it with a CD ROM drive. I think half if not all your troubles will disappear. Check the Nero web site (aHead Software) for the latest version of Nero. I would post a link to the site but for some reason it's all in German. :D

Yes I cannot drag and drop to either CDR or CDRW for both burners.

Thanks for all the help so far...I will try your suggestions and let let you know the outcome.

I have both burners installed incase one doesn't work. Some burning programs reconize both burners and some only the one 16X burner. This is why I keep both.

Any help to enable WinXP built in burning capabilities would probably help solve some of the problem. Any ideas to enable it?

To enable WinXP's built-in burning capabilities, open up 'my computer', then right-click on the drive you want to have the built-in capabilities. Click properties from the right-click menu. Click the tab on the right that says 'Recording', and click the box that says 'Enable CD recording on this drive'. That should do it.

The Recording Tab does not so up at all. So how can I enable this Recording Tab. A blank CD is in the burner.

I also tried the above, diconnected the 16X Burner, and it did not fix either problem.

This is getting frustrating. I think maybe Easy CD 5.00 ruined some dll or driver file so I can't record in WIN XP? I reloaded the new Aspi file from Roxio but it's still doesn't fix either problem.
