cdr recognizing problem

    wondering if you could possibly help!

    friend of mine tried to install a burn program, on a friend of mines p.c. supposedly he extracted the files, or so he said, an all of a sudden Drive's D: an F: dissapeared? i got here an ran through add remove hardware an there where exclamation points next to the drives said something's wrong with registery
    code 19 wierd, cant figure it out, do you think this person piut a virus on my friends computer( running win 2000 Pro ) also i added a usb pci card an it said the same thing ? wierd Please
    help he's bugging me to figure it out, kinda want to help him out ,,,, good friend of mine ,

    any help here would be great

    Sounds a lot like this problem. CD Drives Disappear

    I'd check the registry and see if you can nuke the filters mentioned in this KB article, it's fixed several of these problems for me on a couple of machines.

    FWIW, I don't think this is a virus, just a problem with the registry entries for the CD drives.
