CDROM Blues

    I have an IDE Cdrom Drive that i'm installing. I dont however know which way to put the connectors. Does anyone know of how to do this or of a good tutorial.

    Well, the power connector is polarized, so it should only fit on one way. The 40 pin IDE cable normally has the stripe closest to the power connector, which is pin 1. There is normally some indication of which pin is pin one on the drive, look both at the case and the circuit board. The 4 pin sound cable should only fit one connector, and the only issue is getting the speakers reversed, but it won't hurt anything. Many are also polarized with a small latch, but some are not.

    Thanks, I got it working al right, its just that the thing takes FOREVER To boot when it's plugged in.

    Interesting... The presence of a CD-ROM drive shouldn't affect the boot speed in any significant way. Does the drive work properly once you've booted? Is it jumpered as a master or slave? If it's a slave, is there a master drive on the same channel?

    How is it set in the bios setup? For AUTO?
