I use Word 97 and somehow my default view for all documents got changed from "normal" to "online layout view" and I can't seem to figure out how to change it back. Any help would be appreciated.

this is going to sound too easy :)
(i use off2000, should work for you though)

    open word
with the default (ie normal/default document) open only
    view
    normal

    close word
you may or may not get the 'save changes to global settings' etc prompt - if so, click yes

open word again and it should be the normal / last view oyu had

You need to fix the normal.dot file so that new documents you want to create have the "normal" view. To do it:

Open the normal.dot file (it should be located in your program files\microsoft office\templates folder)

Go to View and specify normal view.

    Now resave the file.

Now when you open a new document it should be in the normal view.
