I want to change the default home page that currently appears in the "Use Default" field in the tools menu of my MS Internet Explorer 6.0. I am unable to delete or change what is in there and the help menu instructions do not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I followed the navigation in regedit, but the page that shows in Default_Page_URL is not the same as what shows in the "Use Default" field in the Tools menu. I changed it to another page anyway but it did not work. Is there something else I can try?
The address that shows in the tools menu seems to be adult in nature judging by the name. I was navigating through a sports site a while back when I was suddenly inundated by pop ups. I could not close them all and had to shut down my computer with the windows still open. It seems like it was around that time when things changed. Some of those pop ups were adult as well. Could this event have caused the change in default?
You'll have to forgive my computer illiteracy, but what is OS?
That did the trick. Thanks so much for your help in getting this resolved. Thanks also for the tips for future communications as I may need help another day.
jk-I don't know if this was mentioned in the good advice Randy gave you so here goes;
If you want to lock your homepage use the following our go to the jpg here and lock it in Spybot-Search and Destroy. This manual lock works in W98, don't know if it works in the newer ones.

Correct your home page to the one you prefer, then immediately do the following:
Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Right-click on the Internet Explorer key, choose new>Key, name it Control Panel.
Right-click on the Control Panel, chose new>DWORD value, name it Homepage. Right-click
on Homepage, choose modify and type in the number 1.
This should lock your home page, so no other web site can change it.
Then navigate here and verify the homepage is correct:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
look for the Start Page entry.

Maribela-I later found out that only locks out the "current user"(as stated on the Spybot image) not a hijacker off the web. I actually had a hijacker take over my homepage which proved out it doesn't work.
Go to the Security forum and check out all the programs for stopping this.
Some of the best (free) Spybot S&D, Spywareblaster, HijackThis and Adaware.
Keep them all updated and you should have not problems,
