they make it so tricky to get anything done,

    hmm
ok well this question interested me
I have a japanese computer and it came with a key number that is running ubuntu(I really hate japanese windows) but i want to install xp english on it

can i use the japanese serial key to install an english version?
is anything in the microsoft world as easy and straight forward as that?

    just wondered ,
got a feeling you'll answer both my questions with one word.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

AFAIK, changing languages is not an excuse, you'll need a new version of XP.

If you have a windows xp disk in English doesn't it have a product ID key with it?

If you have a Microsoft Install disk it should have the product ID with it for the disk. If it does not then I doubt if this would be a legal disk they usually come as a set.

    no go there
i guess the key is bound to my japanese disk.
    ah well i have a
    Japanese edition windows xp
the key is on a sticker stuck to the bottom of my laptop with a burn hole in it.
    and the disk reads perfectly
    hehe
is that a good enough add to list Ebay?
