Hello Friends,

Which Software is better?
I just updated to 5.0 and changed the java version from the java preferences as
instructed in the installation instructions. However, from the terminal if
I type java -version it shows that the 1.4 is still the default. Can someone tell me
how to set 5.0 as the default from the terminal.
Thanks:

Hi hytechpro,

Welcome to TSG ! :)

In order to have the last version of the Java runtime (version 1.5.0_06), you should download the JDK 5.0 Update 6 on this page.
Recently, Sun provides a development kit called Netbeans 4.1 Bundle you may download with the JDK 5.0 Update 6 on the same page.
Also, if you mean to build Java web applications in the future, you need to download the J2EE 1.4 SDK.
If you want to install the whole stuff, I recommand you to uninstall the previous version(s) of the Java runtime to avoid any conflict.
Also, if you have already developped Java programs, you may recompile them with the new kit.
