What's the exact "service tag" number and "express service code" number on it?

You have THIS Dell Latitude E6400 laptop.
It shipped 7-1/2 years ago in the U.S.A. and came with Windows Vista Business SP1 32-bit.
When and how was Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit installed in it?
Where did the hard drive come from that was installed in it about a year ago?

it was installed by an IT tech of 10 years experience. I'm guessing within the last year or two at most.

I don't know how you use that laptop and how well you maintain it, but I'm not inclined to believe there's a hard drive or disc drive problem.
I'm more inclined to believe there's a software problem.

My use of computer is mostly emails, sharing some youtube videos, general use overall... as in no video gaming or other things that would put high demands on the computer. I run MWBytes regularly, defrags, all important Updates from Windows, CCleaner and so on.
What do you suggest in the way of software check ups? To Do's...?
It's puzzling as it will not play this DVD I made using DVD Flick and ImgBurn, but it will play a commercial DVD. The DVD made using DVD Flick and ImgBurn plays on all my other computers. Is there a Codec issue? what little research i did on this sounded like a somewhat familar issue for some Window 7 machines/owners.
    Now what?
    Thank you! Best, Raphael

If the disc drive loads and plays commercial discs fine, that confirms my guess that there's nothing wrong with it.

I use VLC Media Player 2.2.4 to play DVD's, movies, etc. because it's better than Windows Media Player and it contains all the necessary codecs.
Note: select the "Full" option during the install process.

Why all the Bad sectors though? Somewhere along the line I vaguely remember a reliable source said something like anything more than 4KB-10KB's of bad sections is a pretty good indication of hard drive failure?!
What about a K-lite mega codec pak before installing VLC or whatever pak you'd suggest or try!?!
I would need to set the defaults in VLC for all extensions to open by default and not WMP correct? Or does VLC change WMP settings?

You didn't answer my last question in post #6, so I don't know why there's a bad sectors issue with the hard drive.

I remove all the Windows media features after I install Windows 7
    Capture.JPG
then I install VLC Media Player and then select it to open all video and music files and discs.
In your case, you would need to change the defaults from WMP to VLCMP.

Where did the hard drive come from that was installed in it about a year ago?
The IT tech installed it and was stated as new. The one that was replaced was a Western Digital WD Scorpio Black MDL:WD 1600 BJKT - 75F4T0.
Whats your opinion of running a Seagate, Western Digital or Dell Hard drive diagnostics? Please state your preferences if possible? Thank You Very Much!

I just finished running MWBytes and look what it found. The notebook runs much better now..I wonder would another CHKDSK be fruitful.
The DVD in question now plays...Thank God! Should we do a drum roll??!:)

Well, I just tried again to get the DVD to play and it would not. Say what?!
Makes me wonder if ALL the malware was found and removed? Or is it something else?
    Please advise!
    Tx, Raphael
