Hi all,
I've been having some slow internet issues and was told that it might be due to my cables. I admit, I scrounged them from a pile of extra cables at work, not knowing if they were the "right kind" or not. Hey, they plugged int othe router...what more do they need to do?
So is there a difference? Should I have a certain type of cable for my home network? I have a Cable modem hooked to a Netgear wired router. From the router are two Dell PCs running Win XP. This may sound dumb, but does the color fo the cable mean anything? I have a grey one and a blue one with a dark blue one connecting the modem to the router.
Thanks!

Any CAT5 cable should be fine for your uses, and the color means nothing. There are two basic types of cables, patch cables and crossover cables. The crossover cables are intended to connect two NIC's directly, they swap the transmit/receive pairs, patch cables are 1:1. Normally, crossover cables are labeled, but not always.
