What exactly do you mean when you say that you cannot reset the search engine?

Do you want to use a different search engine and it isn't allowing you to do so?

When did this start occurring? You may have a browser hijacker or other adware/bloatware/crapware that is preventing you from changing it.

I just discovered it recently. I have tried Malwarebytes and Eset to remove malware, but they say they don't find any.
    What else can I do?
    Thanks,
    Boyd.

Considering that 'SafeSearch' by Yahoo is one of the search engines, it might be the anti-virus itself.

There may be a setting in the program to remove this.

I don't find a setting to remove ANY search engine. Under "manage" there's no removal method.

I disabled both of them. Was that supposed to accomplish something?

Sometimes extensions can change your search engine.

    Maybe this will help Untitleda.png
After that the URL Line won't be greyed out Anymore and a Green check mark would appear besides the URL Box !
    Then Simply click ok
And Highlight Google-English in the list and click the Make Default button.
Click Close and you are Done !

    Hope that fixes your problem.
