I will be purchasing a Chromebook next month but I want to get one that is pretty decent.
I'm curious, which one would you recommend?

Pretty decent is pretty subjective. Can you give us an idea of your price range, please? That'll help.

Also before you buy any, check to see how many years it will get updates by looking here.

You need to post what size you prefer and what you intend to use it for.

I bought an Acer chromebook on sale at Walmart online in July for $130 and free shipping. The screen size is 11.6" which might be too small for some.

It has 4 ports: 2 USB C that can be used both to charge and to add a display and 2 USB 3.1 (A form factor ports) so my old peripherals still work.
So look closely at the number and types of ports and what you hope to connect.

I don't do work because I'm retired. I use it to surf. If you need to use MS Office, you need to look at how well or poorly Office 365 online works on the device by reading reviews.

Most chromebooks come with googleplay so it is easy to install the apps you might use on your phone or an android tablet.

I plan to really just use it for writing...writing articles and working on my books in Google Docs, etc...my MacBook is a 13in, so that size is perfect for me.

So really any chromebook would suffice. Since GoogleDocs / etc is online it shouldn't waste too much space on the drive.

Do you plan to attach a mouse? If so, is it USB type A or USB C?
Any other things you'd normally attach? (My chromebook has decent speakers so I don't need to pair my bluetooth speaker. If I didn't have the bluetooth speaker, I'd use earbuds in the sound port.)

Do you save what you write off the computer so you have a backup archived? If so, do you save on a USB stick, micro sd card or portable hard drive? My chromebook has a micro sd slot and a spare type A USB port so I could save anything on a stick, a card or a portable hd. (I prefer a backup not in the cloud. Also if there is no internet access, you'd still be able to work.

Look at recent "best" chromebooks lists and see if certain models appear on all
