    Hello,

Big question about these two: citrix and VMware, what is the latest in Citrix and VMware? ok the main question is, we have a company that is using 2 citrix servers (fault tolerance purposes) and wondering is VMware better? facts, forums or previous discussions will help greatly. What is the process of moving from Citrix to VMware (we only run 2 to 3 programs on the citrix box and only about 20 clients use citrix on 2 citrix servers).

Just to shoot out, where is a good tutorial on Windows 2000 SQL and 2005 SQL?

    Thank you

    Hi.

For your first question. Citrix/Vmware are totally different animals. Citrix allows you to present applications or virtual desktop terminal sessions to multiple clients.

Vmware (ESX) virtualizes an entire system. From the BIOS, CPU, Memory, all the way to HBA's, disk, etc.

They're pretty much mutually exclusive from each other. VMware is great for LAB, hardware consolidation, or disaster recovery. It's main gains lately have been in the consolidation space. You would only benefit if you're trying to consolidate "n" number of middle ware or other application servers that aren't extremely resource intensive. For something like Citrix it typically doesn't make sense because you would be stuck with Vmware + Citrix + Windows licensing. (Not just Citrix/Windows)

thank you for clearing that up about citrix and VMWARE, but now my question is, what is the latest citrix and what benefits do you have from the old citrix to the new or latest one (security, features, etc)? Also i know this is not part of the question, but lets say you have 25 people connecting to a server that will be hosting company website, does it need to a nice server like 4gb of ram, xeon quad processor etc? do I also need licensing for 25 cals since people are going to contact the server (port) to check out our website, or is purchasing user cals only for internal use only?

    Thank you again 0111111
