clean install on hard drive

    is it possible to clean install windows 8 pro on new hard drive?

    It is possible to get the equivalent of a clean install, but you'll need to have an ISO of the installation files and burn it as a bootable DVD.

    But you can't use an empty new hard drive; you'll have to install an "upgrade path" version of Windows on it first. Windows 8 Pro Upgrade has to see a previous version of Windows on the hard drive, but you don't necessarily have to upgrade over that previous version. Boot from the DVD, choose "Keep nothing" in the installation options, then choose to format the hard drive. Windows will format the drive/partition you choose, and you can choose the drive/partition where the previous version is installed; Windows 8 Pro Upgrade has already confirmed that you have a legitimate upgrade path.

    Once the format is complete, Windows 8 Pro will begin installation, which amounts to a clean install, since formatting has wiped the hard drive/partition clean.
