i have a old dell demension 3000 desktop, recently it was struck with a couple viruses (pc antispyware 2010)

i saved all my files and decided to do a clean install.

a couple drivers were missing:

Network Adapter
Ethernet controller
Multi Media Controller
Video Controller (VGA)

i couldn't get online so i plugged in a USB wireless adapter to try and get online to download these drivers. (BTW the att modem is attached to this computer.)

i tried updating each driver and it just searches and comes up with nothing. So i went to the Dell site and looked up which drivers to DL, i DL them and it just saves to my desktop as a application file.

i'm not sure what to do now, i'm stuck!

much appreciated

Double click the file on the desktop. It should then install automatically.

i wish it were that easy lol, it opens up and gives me a embedded code type thing. it asked me what program i wanted to open it with. it shouldnt do that though. when i went to go save it from the dell site, it saves as an unknown file

Right-click "My Computer", Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager.

R-click on what you want to update driver for, click Properties, Update driver.

You can tell it where to find the file.

the files do not show up though. when i go into hardware wizard it asks if i want to do the (recommended) or (advanced) in "advanced" you get to try and locate it, i think this is what you are referring too. The files are saved to my desktop yet the options do not show up when i try to find them.

I think the file you have download is not driver; Please your browser cookies and then download the driver; when you click on the link, window will appear to choose the way of download options

1: Download via Dell Driver Download Manager - Dell recommended

2:
Download via your Internet Browser

Choose the "Download via Internet Browser:

I am cent percent sure that you will be able to download the EXE file which you can execute for installing the driver,

Let me know if any questions

Thanks

Go to bios and find your service tag
write it down
go to the dell support page
Enter your tag number
if you can find your tag
Start over from scratch with your install and only takes 45 minutes.
use this list
without the tag you will have to sort through all the drivers...
you want the chipset, video, audio and network and modem
dont worry about the rest{unless you get a yellow mark in device mgr}then post back.}..so you are only downloading 5 files
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...emID=DIM_CEL_3000&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Download and burn the files with a friends pc
