does any one know any good downloads of applications that'll help me get rid of all this extra crap on my computer as well as defragment my hardrive, check drive c for errors, get rid of unneccesary applications that are taking up ram.
for some reason my built in scandisk doesn't work because it continues to say that information has been written to the hardrive since the time it started, and i haven't touched it, and since scandisk doesn't work, my hard drive defragmenter doesn't work, and more or less my pc is a mess, i would really like to find an application that cleans everything up and gets everything running like new again.

Thanks.

Which version of Windows are you running?

Also, I do not think a program that can do all that exists, hehe wish it did exist though.

For Scandisk, try running it in Safe Mode.

On startup programs:

Download and run Hijackthis! ( http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ ) and post your log file. From there the readers can analyze which processes are nessecary and which are just taking up precious space.

First re Scan Disk - try booting into Safe Mode :

http://www.laplink.com/support/kb/article.asp?ID=102

Run Scan Disk and Defrag in Safe Mode as they are probably aborting due to other programs running in the background. Each time something writes to the drive the process restarts.

If you surf a lot then your pc has probably accumulated lots of junk it could do without - so download Spybot Search & Destroy here :

http://security.kolla.de/

Install > Run > click Online > search for updates > get all updates > close IE - in Spybot again > click check for problems then when its completed click fix all checked.

Depending on how much there is to get rid of Spybot may need to run next time you boot.

Remember to keep checking for updates in the future.

If your pc is slow to boot go - Start > Run type MSCONFIG and on the interface click Startup and see what is listed there as you may be able to uncheck some items thereby reducing boot time even if only marginally.
