    Running Windows XP with SP2.

My user clicks on any random icon on the desktop but all of them become selected. Try to right-click and it will right-click all of the selected icons. You cannot unselect the icons. Right-clicking the open desktop will bring up the list for My Documents.

I open the start menu, control panel. I have to right-click on the item I want to open otherwise it selects all the items and I cannot open just one.

This will also highlight all cells in Excel or any words in Word.

If I Ctrl-Alt-Del, under the Applications tab it will highlight any tasks above the one I select. However, in the Processes tab I can click on any particular Image Name and only that one is selected.

Does anyone have any ideas on what's going on? I've looked into StickyKeys, nothing was wrong there. The "My Current Home Page" is unchecked in the Desktop Items, Web tab. The mouse has the current drivers.

Any help you have is appreciated.

Sounds like 'sticky' keys to me....

These symptoms are common when a key like shift or control are 'sticky'.

Check that the keyboard cable is plugged in correctly (push it in - even if it looks fine).
Get the client to press all the keys (prefer it be switched off) firmly and repeatedly.
Even tip the keyboard upside down and tap it a few times.
This normally fixes things like this.

If it doesn't - get them to try a different keyboard.

    Hope this helps

It is also possible that a faulty mouse is causing the problem. Maybe try a different mouse and see if that does not help.
