    dear guy's.

I'm assuming this will get closed down.

Having read in the "random" discussion various threads. Closing down this one for the reason this is not a med site, is a bit silly. And somone said it was about ethic's ?? ehhh? Is it good ethics then to not help people then ?

This forum is not a "weather" site, a "parenting" site, or "sports" site, but there are posting of that nature here.

I'd hate to think if somone has a problem, we just slam the door in there face. The question rasied was valid, and to somone who may or may not have a problem. Did anyone stop to think that a lot of people, dont like going to the doctor, maybe too scared, or just wanted to ask there "friends/community" for some advice.

I abide by the rules of this site, and the moderators do what they think is best, but some of the rubbish I've seen posted here is rarely jumped on, and this thread was a valid one.

As a diabetic, complications such as blood presure and preventative measures of the like, is common. I could certainly have assisted, albeit with the caveat (sp?) of checking advice given with a medical professional.

(I also advise on a dental phobics site BTW !)

PPl always remember, don't turn people away who are asking for help.

If the person wants to discuss this on my site, pls feel free, details, below,
or I ask the moderator to pls rethink his decision to keep this thread open.

I wont post anything further than this initial post.

my details are (for thoes that are concerned)

    e-mail: [email protected]
    website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/notjustporsche/
    website: www.playback.demon.co.uk

if you should want to close this then of course that is the moderators perogatoive

    regards and best intentions

    Adrian

Because blood pressure can kill you and dispensing medical advice is not a good idea unless you are a doctor. A mole is quite a different story.

Hi Adrian..I see you point. The thing is...it is not a good idea to give casual medical advice to people, who might follow it rather than go to a doctor. A mole is not an immediate threat to a person's life but high blood pressure that isnt professionally treated can lead to death. I would not want to be the person who said "oh I had the same problem you're having...just do some deep breathing exercises and think good thoughts and everything will be alright", only to have them stroke out a week later because I gave them false assurance of their problem (no matter how well intended)

Helping people is not the issue at all....people come here for social advice a lot. Thats a totally separate issue then a real physical problem that could be a serious condition, ya know?

Hi Adrian - I was the one responsible for reporting the post. The decision to close the thread was that of the Mods. The reason we have a Report Thread facility.

I did however PM the thread starter in order to explain my feelings why the subject matter of the thread might be "skating on thin ice" for TSG, and that it may be wise to be safe rather than sorry (y)

It's not so much that people will inevitably give (medical) advise, but the possibility that someone very likely might take the Wrong advise, leaving this forum on a sticky wicket, so to speak!!!

    Regards - Oldie

In other words fear of liability.

Albeit an invalid reason, its still the reason.

PS Oldie, I don't think he was looking for a FIX (IE treatment), just what his issues might be...

My oppinion is he will do as he will with his life, giving him advise won't kill him. He was just looking for what "may" cause the problems, telling him is OK but he would have to be reminded that this isn't a pharmacy and he still would have to go to a doctor anyway and if wished to determine exactly what his issues are.

    Cheers

The decision to close the thread was made by a Mod. Rightly so in my opinion. And a Mods decision IMHO should not be questioned by a boards members.

In this case the Mod responsible went one further and provided a link to a more appropriate site. If that is not a polite gesture, then I don't know what is.

    Well done I say (y)

    Hello Albert :)

This is supposed to be an open forum of discussion with only the control of unusual attitudes as in the TSG rules.
A member sought the thoughts of others and the response by one member was to call it unappropriate and request the thread closed.
I saw the thread poster as being scincere in approaching his dilemma. I am sure at least one person would have suggested seeking a doctors advice, because that one person would have been me --- and I know the personalities of enough of the members here that I strongly suspect others would have also.
I myself have a problem of blood pressure that swings wildly due to an allergy problem and have a low blood sugar problem because of my dietary restrictions.
I don't doubt there could have been a dialog started in this thread along with the advice to seek medical attention.

Some people seem to prefer censorship and enforce 'political correctness' that is to their liking.

I have also seen requests to slice and dice this forum according to what is percieved as a division necessary because of 'age and wisdom'. :D
While I don't often participate in the youthful conversations here at TSG, I am interested in what they think about and ofthen find their thoughts are on an adult level when the topics are adult oriented.

So, who gets to censor whom?

Actually moles can be deadly melanoma and therefore should be checked out by a Dr. As far as the blood pressure issue, I think the majority of people now know that decreasing sodium and losing weight if above ideal weight are two good steps in the right direction. This is a known fact! Worked for me! :) Take care. angel

Weight loss and diet are good ways to control it, but doing it on your own without the consultation could get you DEAD. High blood pressure is nothing to mess with. I agree also that the mole issue should be taken to a doctor as well since they do have their own blood supply and also need to be biopsyed after removal. I guess the closing blood pressure thread was a bit extreme on second thought. Too many self elected moderators I think.

Sorry I didn't clarify that better for you Rockn....I would assume that one has most likely been to a Dr. in the first place to know they have hypertension....but if not, then a consult is definitely in order! :) It's just well publicized by the AMA and other medical associations via the news and other media, that lowering sodium and losing weight are two steps in the right direction. A complete physical is a good first step to then learning what is right for each individual. :) Take care. angel

Actually, I think the decisions should be questioned, so long as it is done in a respectful way. Dicussion on a topic such as this help define the parameters of what should be acceptable.

Come along now. Sarcasm is uncalled for. The button is there for members use. The decision is made in the Mods lounge. QED. One need not even say one pressed that button - I did. Without regrets I hasten to add.

So a moderators decision should not be questioned? That's the kind of mentality that sheep follow.
