codec for non-standard mpeg

    I have created some short MPEG-1 clips using 3rd-party software. These play
    fine on my Win98 PC under Windows Media Player 9 or 6.4. However, on a Win2000 PC they produce the error "ActiveMovie cannot play this
    video stream because it falls outside the constrained standard", apparently because the aspect ratio is not 4x3.

    If this is a codec issue, how can I find out which codec is the one that works?
