How do I keep folders collapsed in Windows 10 Explorer?

What I see is this every time I open it... collapse 1

What I would like it to open up with is this... collapse 2
Is there a way to do this?
Thank You,
Gary

Click the little grey arrow next to "This PC" to collapse those folders. Once you collapse it, it should stay that way until you click it again.

  1. Open your Windows 10 Explorer
  2. In the top left, under "View", there is a button that says "Navigation Pane"
  3. Click on "Navigation Pane"
  4. A menu should drop down from the button you just clicked
  5. Un-check "Expand to open folder" ( the only thing that should have a checkmark is "Navigation Pane")
  6. Next, test it out, did this fix work?
Edit: Fixed "File" to say "View".

Hi, actually it's under "View" not "File: it is called navigation pane, the options are:- Navigation pane, expand to open folders, show all folders, show libraries. Make your selection.
