    Hi all!

I have a problem with my university internet. I can connect fine through wireless, no problems at all.
However when I attempt to use my ethernet cable, I have a connection for 5-10 seconds before any webpage I attempt to access is directed to a portal to log in with my university ID and password. Once I do so and the portal has confirmed that I have access (the user/pass has worked), the display page tells me to retry my original URL, however the internet connection does not work and I am not able to access anything. Any help? Thanks!

I have gone to the help center at my school and they were unable to help me :(

What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the system?

For an attempted ethernet connection ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

You have what appears to be a good connection. You're sure there never was a firewall or security suite? OEMs often pre-install Norton or McAfee or another one. Try these tests (in a Command prompt) ...

ping 131.194.234.12 (or whatever your current IPv4 address is)

ping 131.194.234.1 (or whatever the current Default Gateway is)

ping 131.194.151.202 (or whatever the first DNS Server is)

    ping 8.8.4,4

    ping yahoo.com
