So glad I found this forum. I've been battling "Command Service" for several weeks now. I've ran Norton AntiVirus, SpyBot Search and Destroy and have attempted to go to the registry level to delete this "visitor", but it won't allow me to delete the file. It says it's "in use in memory". Can you offer any suggestions on how to get rid of this?

These are the messages I got from the SpyBot scan (but wasn't allowed to delete them in the Registry):

Command Service: Settings (Registry key, fixing failed)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\cmdService

Command Service: Settings (Registry key, fixing failed)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\cmdService

Command Service: Settings (Registry key, fixing failed)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cmdService

Hi ksjmiranda

Welcome to TSG! :)

* Click Here and download Killbox and save it to your desktop.

* Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know how.

* Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to.

* Before you proceed with the following removal directions, you need to disable Spybot's Tea Timer as it will interfere with the changes we are trying to make.

  • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
  • If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
  • On the left hand side, Click on Tools
  • Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
  • Restart your computer.

* Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find Command Service.
Rightclick and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the Services utility.

* Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"
