my computer is not detecting the port com that my modem is plugged into.I'm using a generic soft k 56 modem and its located in port com 2 However, I ran debug and found out my entire port com system is out of wack the readings for line 1 of debug includes the following: 0040:00 f8 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 78 03 00 00 0000 80 9f so this one of my issues for this computer, the other will handle later so pls help.

    Windows version?

Having a "soft modem" indicates it's an internal PCI modem which usually use COM Port 3 or 4, as COM Port 1 and 2 are "hardware ports", but internal modems use "Software ports" created by the modem driver.

Reloading the modem driver would be a good start, it might create the correct software port you need?

The debug info is of little use in this matter.
