Could be the cipher strength settings have gone "awol" Is it only secure sites you can't see ?

With your browser open click Help/About Internet Explorer and tell me what the cipher strength is.

With your browser open click tools/Internet options then the security tab and click default level.

Let me know if that works.

I did as you said but somehow i still cant get on. Well im trying to log into a site but it wont take me to the log in site. I can browse the whole site except for the log in site. Any ideas?

Do you think i should set the security level to its lowest? And if I do what are the consequenses if there is any?

Is it only that one particular site you are having problems with ?
Post the sites url and I'll have a look myself.

No don't set the level to it's lowest as you will be inviting all manner of activex controls and such to install on your computer without your knowledge.

Try this click Tools/Internet options and click the security tab. Select Custom level Scroll down and make sure "Scripting of java applets" is enabled.
Also click Tools/Inernet options Privacy tab and set the slider to medium.

I think I'm having the same problem as Shenanigans, I haven't been able to access or even sign into some secure sites for three weeks now, including hotmail, msn and part of yahoo. (With yahoo I can sign in enough to use email, but it won't let me change password etc).
I've tried everything you've mentioned so far Evileye, but no joy yet.
Love, Shelob.

go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

The only way I've been able to get into hotmail or any MSN feature in the last three weeks has been to find a 'mail to' link on a web page, and use the little grey 'secure sign in' box. Whenever I try to get in the normal way I just get the (all to familiar) cannot display page.

you are using an outdated version of HJt, download the latest version which shows a few more entries normally, then post a new log, there are a couple of entries that need fixing however there is nothing obvious that will cause your symptoms
