Compaq beep codes

    my parents old Compaq beeps two short beeps after ram check. i looked it up on their website and it says "general error". how can i find out what this means?

    Is there a problem or are you just curious as to what it means. What is the BIOS type? Most have their won codes.

    i don't know how to find out what bios i have. i got that info from bioscentral.com under "compaq bios beep codes". i don't notice any probs,but it killin' me, lol.

    Having formerly worked for Compaq...

    They basically use Phoenix BIOS.

    If you're getting beep codes at post, then it's time to reseat the RAM and reseat the Video Card. If the Video card is Integrated, then your motherboard may be TOAST!

    It sounds like they may want to buy a new PC!

    With the PC prices dropping so much lately, they can get a brand new gateway or dell for under $1000. probably much less than they paid for the dinosaur that they have now!
