Hi, I reformatted my computer the other day and after It was done I put in my WIndows XP Professional disc and followed the instructions on installing it. It got to the copying files part and kepts freezing around 42% and 43%. I noticed that the files are copied in alphabetical order. When it got to the "N" files thats where it would suddenly just stop around 42% and 43%. Since the installation messed up I reformatted the hd again. I thought maybe the Recovery Disk might restore the computer to it's default store factory settings, but when I put the recovery cd in I get a Red screen that says to call compaq for support. I'd rather ask here though. If I have to I will call them, but I would just like to know what answers I will get here. Also, when I restart the computer now I get an:
    NTLDR is missing,
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

    How can I fix this?

For the part about, NTLDR is missing,, you can try this and see if it gets rid of it.

When you upgraded your os system to XP your FAT32 file system was changed to NTFS. Insert a win 98/95 boot disk. At the command prompt type sys c: a system transfered prompt should appear then you reboot your system.

Another thing, you don't have a smudge or scratch on the XP disk do you?

I get this after following what it says:

    a:\sys c:
Cannot find the system file in the standard locations on drive C: SYS can only be usd on Drive C: To attempt a repair of an already existing installation of Windows use WIndows Setup to make drive C: bootable.

    Tried that also didn't work.

When the A:\> prompt appears, type C: (C colon), then press Enter so that it can change to the C:\> prompt.

(Disregard what I said. I missed part of VM's post)
