Hi,

I am currently running a radeon r9 290 with an amd hd 6550d. I was running dual screen on my computer with one plugged into the graphics card and the other into the motherboard. I updated my driver on the 290 up to 18.8.1 I believe and it shut off the dual moniters and the other monitor does not register. In drivers it says my 6550d has an issue so I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and the problem was fixed. However, this cut out the display and I was forced to reboot causing the r9 290 to revert to the old driver. So I uninstalled the 6550d and rebooted. Now when I install the driver for the 6550d it does not show up under device manager and still does not register for dual monitors. Please help!

Hardware specs?

Typically, the motherboard chipset is disabled when a standalone video card is used. However, I've seen some instances where they will work as you describe.

In any case, you should be able to connect both monitors to the video card.
