Hi, That Ewido is a good program, however it was taken over by Grisoft, who now calls it AVG Antispyware so I suggest you get the new program, it is a free trial but will help you.

And, you should not be loading Ewido at startup it has background protection that may conflict with Norton programs. You should also set the new AVG Antispyware that way, so you are not starting up with it.

[Ewido- you may need to turn if off so it uninstalls right

Open Ewido by double-clicking the yellow 'E' icon in the system tray.
In the 'Your security status' section, toggle the Ewido Guard realtime protection 'off' by clicking 'active' which will then change the protection status to 'inactive'.
When you reboot, Ewido will prompt you as to whether you would like to "Restart the guard?".
Reply 'no' and set it to 'inactive' for the duration of your cleanup.

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _

I have directions below to turn off active protection in AVG, you will need to copy and paste all these steps into a Notepad text file and save as steps.txt on your desktop, or, you can print it out. This is so you have
the correct steps to do, while you work in Safe Mode, where these forums and the Internet is NOT
available! Copy the steps now. Then read all the information, get downloads etc.

Uninstall Ewido 4.0 before you install AVG but you can download the new program, now...be sure you just Save the download, the desktop or your favorite folder for downloads is fine. A/S

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.

When the trial period expires it becomes feature-limited freeware but is still worth keeping as a good on-demand scanner.

    1. Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double click it to launch the set up program.
    2. Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
    3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
      • Next select the "Start Update" button. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    4. Once the update has completed, select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    5. Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
    6. Under "Reports"
      • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
      • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

In the 'Resident Shield' section, toggle the AVG Anti-Spyware active protection 'off' by clicking 'Change state' which will then change the protection status to 'inactive'.
If you are instructed to reboot at any time during your cleanup, AVG Anti-Spyware will prompt you as to whether you would like to "Restart the Resident Shield".
Reply 'no' and set it to 'inactive' for the duration of your cleanup.
Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will run it in safe mode.

    1. _ _ _ _ _ ____
    2. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:
    3. Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the icon on your desktop.
    4. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
    5. AVG will now begin the scanning process. Please be patient as this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete, do the following:
    6. If you have any infections you will be prompted. Then select "Apply all actions."
    7. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    8. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower lef- hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file. This is important).
    9. Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
    • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
    • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    • Enter your Country
    • Enter your State/Province
    • Enter your e-mail address and click send
    • Select either Home User or Company
    • Click the big Scan Now button
    • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
    • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Post both logs, if you need to attach one do so, or use more than one reply.

Hi, Need to check for one more thing>

    Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hi, You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background

Hi, OK, looks like it was gone already but good to check for it.

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
Double-click on the My Computer icon.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
After the new window appears select the View tab.
Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

How to get to Safe Mode in XP:

    Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter

Open Windows Explorer, navigate to this location and if you see the
file at the end of this line delete it:

    C:\Program Files\Malware-Wiped\Malware-Wiped.exe <<this one file first

    Next delete the folder:
    folder C:\Program Files\Malware-Wiped delete it.

Empty the Recycle Bin. Restart the computer normally, then post a new Hijackthis log please.

Hi, Fix the items I have below with Hijackthis....have all other windows, including this one any any Internet windows closed when you go to Click Fixed, after checking any in my list that you have in your Scan.

    O16 - DPF: {4FA3D392-9349-4D85-8FB9-18733534CFE3} - http://www.spybouncer.com/downloader/gdownloader.ocx

If it does not come back in your next run with Hijackthis, you should be good to go....

How are things running now, are there the same symptoms you posted about, with Norton etc?

Hi, I looked up that error message and it may that you are using an old HP printer driver or HP scanner

    SYMPTOMS
When you start your computer, you may receive the following error message:
Generic Host Process for WIN32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

""""If you click Click Here at the bottom of the message box, the following error signature information may appear:
App name App version Module name Module version Offset
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    Svchost.exe 5.1.2600.0 Hpgtpusd.dll 1.1.0.56 00008d0d
When you click Start, and then click My Computer, or when you double-click My Computer on your Windows desktop, Windows may search, and a flashlight icon may appear, for a long time (for example, five minutes) before files appear. A list of files and folders may not appear.

    CAUSE
This behavior may occur if use an old HP printer driver or an old HP scanner driver.""""

Try clickin on the "Click Here" or send the report, you will then get a message back and sometimes, it is able to pinpoint the problem.

    Hi,

If there is a check in "Turn off System Restore...." then it is OFF take the check out.

Then you have to restart, Right click on My Computer, Properties> System Restore tab
and put the check back in, wait till it says "Monitoring" there.

    To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done
