Have a Gateway E-4650 that is just over two years old with windows xp.
Wanted to install new memory.Used Blow Off duster to clean inside of case.
Installed two rdram chips to upgrade memory to 512.
When computer rebooted after memory install the os would not start and the computer would not shut off.I would have to pull the plug to make it go off.Start button would not work.Fan worked and start button was lit.
Pulled out new memory and it was the same way.
Did not have any probs before the memory install.

Until you get the problem resolved you can try to turn off your computer by pressing down on the power button for about 3 seconds.

    Rollin
