A few years ago the vent that leads directly to the CPU was completely dusty. so I heard pledge 'kills allergens" so I sprayed it directly into the vent, whole can. Now the computer lags at intervals and stutters on everything (CPU Usage spikes to 100% every few minutes for 30 seconds) and it's gotten worse. Games are unplayable. I've replaced the graphics card and it still lags.

A few years ago ? A whole can of Pledge ? Well I suppose it smells nice at least ! ;)

First thing I would do is open the case and see if there's lots of dust stuck to the Cpu heatsink, if there is remove the heatsink and fan (H&F), detach the fan and wash the heatsink is some warm water with some washing up liquid added. Give it a good scrub with an old toothbrush or similar to remove all the crap (and Pledge !).

Then dry it thoroughly with a cloth or tissues etc and leave it somewhere warm overnight to completely dry out.
Refit the fan then put some thermal compound onto the Cpu die (the shiny rectangular bit in the middle) and re-install the H&F.

That should help keep your Cpu temps down, let us know if it cures the freezing.

BTW is this one of the PCs in your details ? If so is it #1 or #2 ?

In desperation, to fix a multitude of problems, I put a mobo through the dishwasher and it worked perfectly for several years after that.

I've seen youtube videos where a mobo is washed in a bath or similar.

I wonder if they would float ? Could be a whole new market out there. ;)

A couple of years back the vent leading straight to the CPU was completely dusty. and so i heard pledge 'kills allergens" and so i dispersed it into the vent, whole can. The computer lags at times and stutters on everything (CPU Usage spikes to 100% every couple of minutes for thirty seconds) and it is become worse. Games are unplayable. I have changed the graphics card also it still lags.
