Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 4500, XP SP2, Pentium 4 2.6 ghz, 512 ram that is freezing randomly. Sometimes right after boot up, sometimes after using it for 10 mins, next time 20. Nothing consistent. I have had numerous problems with this, which I have taken care of using this forum and others. I had to do a system repair, initially the system wasn't usable at all, then the usb ports wouldnt work, I have had a google update problem. All those are gone now, except for the random freezes. Where should I be looking now?
    Thanks
    Ned

You might have too many processes running in the background or too many programs loading at Startup.

Also, having only 512 MB of RAM for XP is minimal but certainly not optimal, especially if you're running too many applications at the same time on your computer.

Please click here to download and install version 2.0.2 of the HijackThis Installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

    Do not fix anything

Submit a HijackThis log here, as Phantom010 requested. Make sure to close all open browser windows first before running a scan and saving a log.

Microsoft support for XP SP2 will end on July 13th. You need to upgrade to XP SP3 if you want to continue to receive high-priority updates.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

The Dell Dimension 4500 desktop supports a maximum of 1024 MB of RAM(512 MB in each slot). It uses DDR PC2100 or DDR PC2700 modules. You should seriously consider maxing out the amount. As Phantom010 already advised, 512 MB isn't enough to properly run XP and its associated programs.

You have COMODO Internet Security and Alwil Avast both installed and running. Multiple anti-virus programs will fight with each other and slow down a computer and make it more susceptible to infection. You need to get rid of one of them. My choice would be COMODO because Alwil is the better one.

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.45. Just save it and don't install it nor do anything with it yet.

Your thread is now in the "Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs" section. Be patient and wait for a gold shield malware expert to reply to assist you.

Thanks, have done as you asked. Quick question, what is the entry or entries that indicate infection.
    Thanks again
