I made a thread a while ago about my computer freezing without knowing why. I did lots of checks and ran lots of tests. I swapped my SATA cable and everything seemed to be fixed. However it is now back, the computer freezes (There is no BSOD) and then the tower beeps. It is an electronic beep.

I reset the computer by pushing the button on the front, the computer then works for a while afterwards. However it still will freeze from time to time. I am not really doing anything in particular when it crashes, sometimes it's watching a youtube video, or just looking at the news.

Additionally I don't know if it is of any use but I was away from this computer for four weeks with it being turned off, it was after this time that it seemed to start to freeze. I don't know if that is just coincidence but I know the more information I can give the better.

We need more info on your computer. The beeps may tell us what is wrong. Need to know what motherboard is in the computer. Or, if it is a prebuilt system by HP, Gateway, Dell etc. what is the model #?

    Hello PhilosoRex,

Could you list PC specs please?

On a side note: It sounds from my judgement that it might be hardware related

When do you hear the beeps? Is it at POST? From the time you press the reset button and the computer reboots through the POST do you hear the beeps?

Or is the beep coming after it freezes?

I didn't! I'd replaced the SATA cable at that point. I will get right on that and report back when done.

Glad to see that it's not the hard drive

Go here http://www.3dmark.com/ download the basic edition and run it.

Hardware/Software stress test see if your system locks up during the test.

Okay so I ran the 3dmark test and it didn't freeze during or after the test and the site told me my scores were higher or at expected.

You did run a registry cleaner according to your last thread. Reinstall windows and never use a registry cleaner.

Is your computer up to date with Windows update? Also, have you check for viruses, ran a desk clean up and defragmented your hard drive?

Here is a link for testing the motherboard, CPU, and bits of RAM http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/

This piece of Software is designed for overclockers and gaming enthusiasts to torture test their hardware for flaws: poor cooling between the heat sink and CPU, RAM timings ect.

Running this could take up to several hours.

Yeah I've done all these things.

    I'll do that test ASAP.
