I had a USB2 PCI card that worked fine for a few years, and then a couple of times the PC froze when I connected a USB device; then the USB2 slots stopped working altogether. The built-in USB1 slots continued to work fine (see this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/1088532-usb-2-ports-no-longer.html)

I bought a new USB2 card that worked fine for a few days, then it started freezing again. It stopped working altogether for a while, although not for good like the last time. It works some times, but freezes quite often.

If I buy a brand new computer, is that guaranteed to solve the problem? Or is it possible the problem is being caused by a USB cable or the external devices?
